Anabolic Diet for Bodybuilding
What
is an Anabolic Diet?
The anabolic diet is a type of
eating plan that naturally burns fat and used for body building. It's
specifically made for body builders, because one of the main concerns weight
lifters and athletes face when dieting is that the reduction of calories usually
lead to the loss of muscle as well-- since the body needs calories in order to
obtain muscle mass. An anabolic diet could help in achieving one's weight loss
goals without the need to sacrifice muscle. Likewise, this type of diet doesn't
involve serious food restriction at all-- that means there wouldn't be any form
of unhealthy weight loss nor malnutrition.
The
Basics
The anabolic diet is based on the
book of the same name written by Dr Mauro Di Pasquale. It's a low-carb diet
that focuses on alternating high-carb and low-carb days. The diet works in a
way where it burns body fat instead of carbohydrates
Furthermore, the anabolic diet also
leads to fewer hunger cravings that it makes the weight loss regimen more
effective. The carb cycling varies because it usually involves replacing low
carb diet with a high carb one on specific days, especially after a workout
routine. The reason for that is because whenever you workout out, there's a
need to replenish the calories stored and this could be done with the help of a
high-carb diet plan.
How
It Helps In Bodybuilding
The main principle of an anabolic
diet is to turn the body into a fat burning machine. The plan starts with a
week of only consuming low-carb meals in order to prepare the body in burning
fats instead of carbs. After that, the diet recommends consuming low carbs
during the weekdays, but shifting to high-carbs during the weekend.
The reason for this is that, by
alternating high carbs and low carbs, it helps in preventing the body to burn
carbs instead of fat for energy. Basically, the importance of higher carb days
is that it also allows the body to replenish the fuel lost during vigorous
workout trainings.
Carb
Cycling
Carb cycling gives more freedom when
it comes to setting a schedule in regard to which days should be dedicated to
low-to-moderate carb days, and which days should be on high carb days. Though,
during light workout days and rest days, it would be better to consume lesser
calories, because the body wouldn't be as active as it was during workout days.
Protein
The anabolic diet also follows a
rule where 1/3 of the calories should come from protein. Carb cycling also
certain protein recommendations, such as 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of
body weight during the days when you're active, and 1.25-1.75 grams when you're
not.
Fat
Carb cycling, just like what has
been discussed earlier, suggests eating low-fat meals, and it's important that
you wouldn't binge either during high-carb days. This is very useful,
especially for those who love fatty foods. The anabolic diet teaches people to
consume 15-20% of calories from fat on high carb days when the body is capable
of burning it.
Choosing
the Right Diet
People who have a busy lifestyle
should consider anabolic diet, because there aren't any rules to follow and
it's pretty simple. Best of all, it's effective for those who want to lose fat,
but want to maintain their muscle during the process.
